Thank you for your interest in recruiting at Austin Community College. We look forward to helping you find qualified candidates for your positions. We ask that you review and adhere to policies set for recruiting at ACC.
Recruiting Guidelines
ELIGIBILITY FOR THE USE OF ACC CAREER SERVICES
It is expected that employers will interact with students, alumni, and ACC Career Services staff in a professional and ethical manner, including providing complete information about their organization and conditions of employment within their organization. Employers must also meet the following requirements to be eligible to use Career Services facilities and/or services:
- Must adhere to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) guidelines, the National Association of Colleges and Employers Principles for Professional Practice, and the ACC Career Services Employer User Policy. ACC Career Services reserves the right to decline approval for any employer job posting or access, as we deem appropriate.
- Comply with the NACE Internship Principles regarding unpaid internships. http://www.naceweb.org/about-us/advocacy/position-statements/position-statement-us-internships/
- Comply with “for-profit” private sector employer standards regarding unpaid internships as set by the Fair Labor Standards Act
- Supply current contact information including organization name, address, contact person, domain/company-based email address, phone number, physical address, organization description, pay rate (if applicable), detailed description of the position, and preferably a website.
- Keep all student information obtained confidential unless receiving additional written student consent. This standard complies with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
COMPENSATION
It is expected that positions for which the organization is recruiting will provide a guaranteed salary of at least minimum wage. A draw against future earnings does not constitute a salary. However, employers offering commission-based positions for full-time career positions may use Career Services if they inform Career Services and interviewees of the specific manner in which remuneration is to be determined. No commission-based part-time or internship positions will be posted unless approved by Career Services on a case-by-case basis. It is expected that commission based employment will provide an hourly rate + commission to be eligible for approval.
All positions for which the organization is recruiting must provide compensation that does not rely on recruiting others to join the organization.
FEES CHARGED TO CANDIDATES
Those companies requiring candidates to invest, purchase supplies, or pay a fee as a condition of employment will not be allowed access to any services offered by Career Services. This includes startup or training fees. Positions that require students and alumni to purchase a franchise or “business opportunity” will not be allowed access to services.
SOLICITATION
Austin Community College is a non-commercial campus. Employers are not allowed to recruit for positions whose duties will involve the on-campus sale or promotion of products or services to ACC students, faculty, or staff (e.g. Campus Brand Ambassadors).
THIRD-PARTY RECRUITERS
Third-party recruiters as defined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) as Third-party recruiters are agencies, organizations, or individuals recruiting candidates for temporary, part-time, or full-time employment opportunities other than for their own needs. This includes entities that refer or recruit for profit or not for profit, and it includes agencies that collect student information to be disclosed to employers for purposes of recruitment and employment. The term “third-party recruiters” refers to but is not limited to employment agencies, staffing services, temporary agencies, online job boards, recruiters, and contractors. Third-party recruiters will not be allowed to attend Career Fairs to recruit for other companies. Representatives from these companies may post under the following conditions:
- They must fully disclose to Career Services the name of the client that the third-party recruiter is representing and to whom the student’s credentials will be disclosed.
- They must keep all student information obtained confidential unless receiving additional written student consent. This standard complies with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- They must not retain any student resumes for future placement unless given additional student written consent.
- They must not charge a fee to the applicant.
EMPLOYERS NOT ALLOWED TO RECRUIT THROUGH CAREER SERVICES
Please note, ACC will not approve employers, job listings, campus recruitment visits, or marketing for the following:
- Employers who fail to meet the conditions of our Employer User Policy.
- Employers with positions that require start-up costs for the applicant or hire.
- Employers who have positions requiring employees to sell products or services door to door (cold calling), at-home parties/demonstrations, use direct sales, multi-level marketing, or similar practices. This is for the safety and security of our students.
- Employers with positions that require candidates to work with an illegal product or service.
- Employers who are involved in strikes and are hiring for positions that are included in the affected bargaining units.
- Employers who have been judged by a court of law in the United States to be engaged in illegal activities.
- Employers who request personal data (i.e. social security number, bank account information) at the time of application.
- Employers who misrepresent their organization by providing dishonest information or omitting critical information.
- Employers who want to post any position related to the adult entertainment industry.
- Employers with postings containing advertising, promotion, solicitation for goods, services, funds, or soliciting others to become members of any enterprise or organization will not be approved.
ACC Career Services reserves the right to decline approval for any employer job posting or access, as we deem appropriate. Any reported breach of any part of this policy will result in the termination of all future opportunities to recruit Austin Community College students and alumni through the Career Center.
